Chapter 7: Knightfall ended with Moneypenny briefing Bond on a series of suspicious deaths. Benjamin Kwan, a green energy pioneer working in neutrinovoltaic energy research, died in Singapore under unclear circumstances. Three weeks later a geoengineering specialist died in Orlando. THEIA believes both killings match the method of a terrorist known as Caliban, but Caliban’s remains were already recovered from a landfill in Mexico, meaning he has been dead for months. THEIA has made another mistake.
The working theory is that someone named Damien is in Vietnam planning to stage a copycat killing to make it look like Caliban is still active. Bond’s job is to find out who the target is.
007 First Light Chapter 8: Time to Die Walkthrough (Part 1)
Arriving at The Pearl
The chapter opens in Vietnam. Bond’s cover for this mission is St. John Smythe, owner of a same-day courier service called Go Get It.
After docking, the staff of The Pearl welcome you and escort you to your villa. The Pearl is a resort built into a cliff and the staff mention that the hotel keeps no digital records of a guest’s stay. So privacy matters here. When you reach your Loi Villa, there is a package waiting for you inside.
Go upstairs and open the package from Q. It is on the bedside table in the bedroom. Inside are a pair of Q-Glasses and a Q-Trak, a smart tracking device designed to monitor assets in the field. Once inside someone’s bloodstream it can track their location, heart rate, and vital signs for up to 24 hours. The Q-Glasses record everything they see and send it directly back to MI6.
While you are in the villa you can inspect several items:
- Ssh! Buds on the console table
- Old Grandpa Bourbon on the coffee table
- Wellness Gift Basket on the TV console in the bedroom
Scanning the Guest Ledger
After testing the Q-Glasses your next task is to scan the guest ledger. Leave the villa and take a left after the gate. Head up the stairs surrounded by forest until you reach the reception area at the top.
At the reception desk you will notice an attractive woman in a red bikini who does not give her name. You overheard that her villa is being upgraded to the Emperor Villa. Put that aside for now and speak to the female receptionist.
Ask for the ledger and Bond will look through it so Moneypenny can scan the names remotely. She identifies three profiles that match Caliban’s method:
- Ramon Hernandez, a billionaire philanthropist
- Theresa Lorca, a geneticist and the same mystery woman Bond just met at the desk
- Ellis White, a rockstar scientist
Your new objective is to locate all three of them and plant Q-Traks in their bodies. Keep in mind that you cannot use the Dart Phone or Laser on anyone you need to bug.
Finding Ramon Hernandez
Head down to the pool area from the reception. No one is there, so cross the pool and take the right path up the stairs.
On the way you will overhear two gardeners talking about heading to Hung Villa to clear the overgrown plants. That is Hernandez’s villa.
Follow the gardener back down the same direction as your own villa. Continue past the bar until you reach the gate to Hung Villa. Two security guards are at the gate.
Strike up a conversation with one of them and he will tell you that Ramon Hernandez is in a yoga appointment. Bond bluffs and says he is the yoga teacher. To make the cover work you need to find Hernandez’s blue yoga mat because he refuses to do yoga without it.
Moneypenny inform you that the Yoga Centre is inside the Tranquility Cave. From Hung Villa take the right path. Pass another pool and take a left tun. At the next intersection take the right path and you will find the Outdoor Yoga Centre overlooking the ocean.
You can talk to the staff there and ask about Ellis White or Theresa Lorca, although we know that the staff will not share anything due to the resort’s privacy policy. However, this particular staff member lets slip that Ellis White and his friends were making a lot of noise near the Velvet Lantern bar.
From the yoga spot take the left turn and go down the stairs into a yoga space inside the deep Tranquility Cave.
As you enter you will see a man on a phone call outside the storage room. He is talking to someone, informing that Hernandez is demanding his yoga mat be brought to him. The man mentions someone named Cung took the session the previous day at Hung Villa and put the mat inside the Storage Room.
When the call ends, use the Dart Phone on him and take the Storage Key from his pocket. Enter the storage room and you will find the blue yoga mat inside. Take it.
Now head back out of the cave. Along the way you will notice a cameo in the game, it’s Khaby Lame! If you ask him where the Tranquility Cave is he will respond with his famous hand gesture meme.
Back at Hung Villa, the security guards let you straight through now that you have the yoga mat. Do not take down any guards here. Go inside the villa and head upstairs.
Hernandez is in the living area surrounded by guards. They move to confront you but Bond tells Hernandez that he is from the MI6 and Hernandez’s life is in danger. Hernandez is not impressed and says the same about Bond’s life. Moneypenny tells you through the earpiece to mention Agua Verde. That buys you 30 seconds to explain yourself.
Thankfully, Hernandez understands and he agrees to take the Q-Trak. Bond hands Hernandez the Q-Trak and he drinks it down. Hernandez asks if Bond is coming to the party tonight. Bond confirms he will.
Finding Ellis White
Leave the villa and take the right path. Keep walking and follow Moneypenny’s updates through the earpiece. This time, Damien has boarded a commercial flight to Ha Long Bay.
Head back toward the yoga area. At the intersection, speak to a housekeeper standing. She tells you that Lorca has extended her stay after attending a convention.
Continue down to the Velvet Bar and eavesdrop on two people nearby. They mention a party at the Ocean View Bar with Ellis White, who is well known in the eco-science world.
Head toward the left side of the bar. A guest at the Ocean View Bar entrance refuses to let you in without an invite. When this happens, two women are coming out from the party itself and are talking about how Ellis White has made flyers as invites for the private party. You need one of those flyers.
When the women separate, follow the one who sits down on the bench. There is a passage to the left before the benches with a yellow hose at the end. Turn on the hose to distract her. While she is distracted, take the flyer from her pocket.
Head inside the Ocean View Bar. Ellis White is on the phone. When you try to enter the round bar area his friends block you saying it is VIP only. Bluff your way through by raising the bar-related issue and one of White’s friends, Jonty, agrees to go with you to get a new round of drinks. Walk with Jonty back to the Velvet Bar.
The storage room is behind the bar but you need a keycard to get in. Go up to the pool area above the bar. There is a glass roof next to the pool. Hack it open and drop into the storage room below. Be careful as there are several staff members inside.
Slowly move behind the large tank and turn on the hose to distract the two staff standing nearby. While they are busy checking the tank, crouch behind the cleaning cart and move to the back of the room where the key is hanging on a cabinet door.
Rather than turning back the same way, jump over the lockers and return to Jonty outside.
Open the minibar and it is time to make Ellis White a drink. The options are Beer, Americano, Tequila Slammer, and Rum Collins.
Choose the Tequila Slammer. Before handing it over, plant the Q-Trak inside the drink. White drinks it down and the Q-Trak is now in his system for 24 hours.
Finding Theresa Lorca
Head back out toward the Velvet Bar and climb upstairs toward the Serenity Space. The Serenity Space is full so you cannot get in from the front. Go back down to the reception area.
Near the location board just across from your Loi Villa gate there is a gap in the rocks beside it. Climb through it. This brings you around to the back of the Serenity Space.
Theresa Lorca is sitting by the pool. A cutscene triggers. Bond hacks the fan beside her and the wind sends her papers flying. He helps collect them and sees that they are about a genomic analysis of a marine bacterium and its role in alginate production.
Bond and Lorca talk for a while about her work. She explains she is in Ha Long Bay for a convention to secure funding for a super strain of algae called Chlorella Vulgaris, which absorbs more CO2 than any other plant on the planet.
After quite a while, a housekeeper came to inform Lorca that her Emperor Villa is now ready so she has to leave. By the end of the cutscene Bond has already planted the Q-Trak in her drink.
One Last Thing
Your new objective is called One Last Thing. Head back to the main area and go to the pool near Hung Villa for a cocktail. While enjoying the view, you can ask Moneypenny about two things through the earpiece.
About Agua Verde, she explains it was a waste recycling company caught dumping pollutants into South American rivers about twenty years ago.
The pollution harmed hundreds of residents and Ramon Hernandez has spent millions compensating the affected families for their medical costs ever since.
About Caliban’s body, she explains that the remains were taken to a morgue in Sinaloa for autopsy and there were reports of a fire at the same morgue that same night. Damien may have been responsible for this.
While Bond is enjoying his Pho-King Champ cocktail, Moneypenny reports that something is wrong with Lorca. Her heart rate is spiking and her oxygen levels are dropping.
Run past the yoga spot toward the Emperor Villa and take the left path beside the Ocean View Bar path.
When you enter her villa a cutscene plays. Lorca comes out of the pool looking completely fine. She was free diving (the reason her heart rate is spiking).
After some flirting, Bond and Lorca kissed and the cutscene cuts to the nighttime.
The Party
Night arrives and Bond gets ready for the party. There is a mini game here where Q talks you through tying your bow tie via the earpiece. Just before you enter the party, Moneypenny reports that something is happening to Lorca again. So, head to the Emperor Villa first.
The villa gate is locked when you arrive. And unfortunately, Damien’s SUVs are already parked outside. Go around the back and climb the steep rock steps.
Infiltrate the villa from the rear. Track the guards using your Q-Lens and take down or eliminate anyone in your path. Follow the path through the bushes and keep clearing guards as you go.
You need to reach the roof of the villa. Keep tracking guards with the lens as you move through the rear terrace and climb the long staircase. When you reach the rooftop a cutscene plays.
Damien has taken both White and Lorca. Niko Murto is holding Lorca. Damien said something along the lines of that the real Caliban never allowed for collateral damage and that White does not fit the narrative. He also mentions that his father is adamant that THEIA’s conclusions are not to be questioned. He orders Niko to bring Lorca to the site.
Your next mission is to go to the wine cellar and save Ellis.
Rescuing Ellis White
There are many guards inside so start from above. You can jump from the rooftop directly into the villa. Two guards are inside the bedroom. Use the Dart Phone on one and take down the other with your weapon of choice.
Head out of the bedroom to the main area where more guards are waiting. Most areas have two guards each. The Dart Phone and laser Strap combination works well here. Dfghistract one, shoot the other, and then finish the distracted one. Use the same approach in the second floor living area with the bar.
Go downstairs to the kitchen and dining area where two more guards are waiting.
Then, the first floor living area next to the dining room has three guards.
What you need to do first here, is hack the controller on the wall so all three look toward it, then crouch inside the room. When one moves toward you, take him down with melee. Deal with the other two using the same combo from before.
Head down toward the wine cellar from the dining room. Your Q-Lens will show White being held inside. Kick the door and take down both guards quickly.
A cutscene plays. Bond checks on White who is alive but unconscious. He picks up one of the guard’s earpieces and while he is examining it, White suddenly wakes up, grabs a wine bottle, and hits Bond from behind. White thinks Bond is working with Damien. You need to knock White out. One kick is enough.
Saving Theresa Lorca
Lorca is already on the move and Moneypenny has pinned her location in your Q-Lens. Leave the wine cellar, head toward the sea, and run along the edge of the rocks.
This connects to the Ocean View Bar. More guards are here so clear them. Keep following the pinpoint toward the Velvet Bar, taking down more guards on the way.
A cutscene triggers. You see Murto hitting Lorca and dragging her somewhere.
Bond uses a zipline to reach their location, kicks the door open, and finds Murto about to burn Lorca alive. The fight continues in Chapter 8 Part 2.
