The previous chapter ends with Grace being abducted. The scene shifts to a new cutscene revealing that her captor is Victor Gideon, an Umbrella T-Virus researcher. Leon is dispatched to Wrenwood and spots Victor carrying an unconscious Grace while stuck in traffic. When Leon moves to intercept him, Victor fires a syringe into a nearby passerby and disappears into the chaos. The cutscene ends, and a Report on Victor Gideon is automatically added to your Files.
The Streets of Wrenwood
You’ll now be in control of Leon, with the objective to go after Victor. It quickly becomes clear that the people Victor injected are already turning; this is the game’s first combat encounter, and where it walks you through the basic controls. Press L2 to aim, R2 to shoot, and X to perform a melee attack. After landing a few shots on an infected, they’ll briefly freeze, and that’s your window to follow up with a melee strike to finish them off.
Once you’ve handled the first wave, keep moving forward. The path is linear, so follow it and take a right at the intersection where panicked civilians are rushing toward you from the opposite direction. Eliminate any infected along the way and pick up any ammo they drop.
The Van and the Axe Zombie
On this stretch of road, you’ll come across a van with its back doors open. Inside, you’ll find green herbs. Collect them, as they can restore a small amount of health.
Right after you pass the van, an infected in a construction outfit shows up with an axe. This is where you first get to use Leon’s Hatchet. Hold the Left Bumper to block attacks, or press it right before the hit lands to deflect it and create an opening to counter. You can then press the Right Trigger without aiming to swing the Hatchet at enemies.
Once you take down the axe zombie, you can grab its axe and throw it at another infected. It’s a one-hit kill and feels really satisfying to pull off.
The Car Pileup
Continue forward until you reach an intersection where cars have begun piling up, and a wave of infected comes rushing toward you. Take them all out, then work your way around the car pileup to get through. A cutscene plays on the other side. Leon reports that he’s lost Victor’s trail, but the operator responds with a lead: Victor recently acquired a new building, the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center.
