Monster Hunter Wilds: Best Light Bowgun Builds – TU 4

Light Bowgun is a weapon full of surprises in Monster Hunter Wilds. There is always something up the sleeve of an LBG user. One moment they unleash a barrage of rockets, the next they stun the monster, and a second later they are slashing it left and right. However, a perfect build is needed to maximize its potential. In this guide, you will find the best Light Bowgun builds in Monster Hunter Wilds.

*This guide was updated for Title Update 4

Light Bowgun Gameplay and Combo

The Light Bowgun comes with two mod slots and one Special Ammo slot. Special Ammo options are Wyvern Blast, a mine that explodes after a short delay, and Adhesive Ammo, which sticks to the monster before detonating. Available magazine options vary depending on your specific bowgun.

Rapid Fire Mode

The standout new mechanic in Wilds for Light Bowgun is Rapid Fire mode. Press Circle to attach an ammo drum to your weapon, significantly increasing your fire rate. Note that Rapid Fire only works with specific ammo types depending on your bowgun. Pierce ammo is currently one of the strongest options in Wilds.

Best Damage Combo

For maximum damage output, follow this sequence:

  1. Use Pierce or Elemental ammo (match elements to monster weaknesses when possible)
  2. Activate Rapid Fire mode
  3. Fire a burst of shots
  4. Immediately Burst Step (press dodge at the right time) after firing
  5. Fire again while dodging
  6. Repeat this burst-step combo twice
  7. Reload when necessary
  8. Get back to firing!

Watch for when your barrel rises and starts coming back down after firing, that’s your cue to press dodge for the perfect Burst Step. When done correctly, you’ll maintain constant damage while staying mobile.

Low Rank Light Bowgun Build & Progression

Start with the default Hope Armor for its Divine Blessing skill. Once you have defeated Guardian Rathalos and Guardian Ebony Odogaron, craft their armor sets for improved defense along with Weakness Exploit and Burst, both of which meaningfully boost your damage output.

Weapon choice is the most important factor at this stage. The Rey Szelatya is an excellent Light Bowgun that performs well from the early game to high rank, thanks to its strong Pierce Level 2 ammo capacity. If you haven’t unlocked it yet, the Chain Blitz is a solid early alternative to use in the meantime.

Make sure to mod your Light Bowgun to maximize Pierce ammo damage and overall ammo capacity for the best results.

Best LBGs for Low Rank

  • Rey Szelatya I
  • Chain Blitz II

Early High Rank Light Bowgun Build & Progression

As you progress through mid and late High Rank, craft the Guardian Fulgur, Rathalos, and Blangonga armor sets. Together, they provide Weakness Exploit, Agitator, and Maximum Might, along with the Second Wind set skill, all of which significantly boost your critical hit damage.

Second Wind grants an extra stamina bar, keeping Maximum Might consistently active even after performing Burst Steps, a crucial advantage for maintaining high affinity throughout hunts.

This is the right time to start crafting both the Exploiter Charm and Agitator Charm, as both become core components of stronger endgame builds and are well worth prioritizing now.

Best LBGs for Early High Rank

  • Rey Szelatya III
  • Valkyrie Flame
  • High Chain Blitz

Best High Rank to Endgame Light Bowgun Builds

These builds are the best options to carry you from the end of the story quests and help increase your HR until you reach true endgame monsters, such as arch-tempered dragons and Gogmazios.

Burst Pierce LBG Build

This is one of the best and most accessible endgame builds for Light Bowgun, requiring relatively easy crafting with no significant RNG dependency.

Maximum Critical Boost, Weakness Exploit, and Burst work together to push both Affinity and Attack to strong levels, allowing your Pierce ammo to deal consistently heavy damage throughout every hunt.

This build serves as a reliable and well-rounded go-to option for carrying you comfortably through all of High Rank content.

Second Wind Gore LBG Build

This build shifts focus from Pierce to Normal ammo, centered around Second Wind and Black Eclipse to maximize Affinity for consistent critical hits.

The ideal charm is Attack Boost Level 3 paired with Burst Level 1. If the RNG feels too demanding, the Challenger Charm is a reliable alternative, simply swap one Challenger jewel out for a Burst jewel to maintain strong damage output.

This build requires careful stamina management. Since Maximum Might depends on keeping your stamina bar full, excessive evasion will drop it and reduce your overall Affinity. Keep dodging to a minimum and focus on positioning carefully to get the most out of this build.

Best Endgame Light Bowgun Builds in MH Wilds

The builds below are the best options for Light Bowgun for endgame content in the latest update. Choose the one that best fits your playstyle.

Endgame Burst Step LBG Build

For players who love the Burst Step mechanic, this build is tailor-made for you. Unlike the previous build, there is no stamina management required here, you can freely and repeatedly Burst Step to your heart’s content.

The Gogmartian Light Bowgun must have Gore Magala’s Tyranny active to trigger Black Eclipse. Binding Counter and Hasten Recovery are also incorporated into this build, providing a noticeable boost to both damage and survivability for a more comfortable overall hunting experience.

The Gogmartian weapon should be reinforced with 3 Attack + 2 Capacity Boost. A 3 Affinity + 2 Capacity Boost setup is also acceptable as an alternative. Regardless of which option you choose, the 2 Capacity Boost is mandatory and should never be replaced.

The best charm for this build is Ballistics Level 2, making it the ideal RNG roll to aim for.

Endgame Gogma Element LBG Build

Light Bowgun is well known for its elemental damage potential, and this build represents the strongest elemental setup currently available, built around Gogmapocalypse and Black Eclipse.

Gogmapocalypse significantly increases elemental damage output while also providing a passive shield that negates damage when hit by an enraged monster, an extremely useful defensive layer against monsters capable of one-shotting you. Black Eclipse further boosts overall damage through increased Affinity.

The Gogmartian Light Bowgun must have Gore Magala’s Tyranny active to trigger Black Eclipse. Use full Attack infusion, reinforced with 3 Attack Boost + 2 Capacity Boost. Mixing some Attack Boost reinforcements with Affinity Boost is also acceptable, as long as the 2 Capacity Boost slots are always kept intact, they are mandatory for an LBG.

Endgame Scorcher Normal Ammo LBG Build

Normal ammo is now a fully viable and competitive option for Light Bowgun, and this build makes the most of it by revolving around three core skills: Scorcher, Binding Counter, and Black Eclipse.

Maximum Normal Shots, Weakness Exploit, Agitator, and Maximum Might ensure your Normal ammo hits incredibly hard with consistent critical hits. Burst and Foray round out the build, further enhancing overall offensive output.

The same Gogmartian setup applies here, activate Gore Magala’s Tyranny for Black Eclipse, with the same infusion and reinforcement as the previous builds.

Unlike the Burst Step build, this build is designed to be played in a stationary, focused manner.

Currently, these are the best Light Bowgun builds in Monster Hunter Wilds as of the latest update (TU 4). This page will be updated as new meta builds emerge in future updates.
