Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Stone Wave Cliffs Walkthrough

Stone Wave Cliffs introduces new enemy types that Sciel handles particularly well, so bring her along. This walkthrough covers every collectible and secret in the area for full completion.

Move forward when you arrive and let the cutscene play. Continue through a short cave to reach Expedition Flag: Stone Wave Cliffs Entrance. Right across from it is Chroma x790, grab it before moving on.

In the next area, you’ll see a large stone monster called a Hexga. Don’t engage it yet. Take the upper path on the right and follow it to a magic rope. Climb up to find Journal – Expedition 78.

Beside the journal is a cave with a Paint Cage inside. Destroy the three locks to open it.

  • First lock: look up and behind the cage.
  • Second lock: climb the magic rope and look right, above the rock pillars.
  • Third lock: jump onto the short pillars just to your left. Opening the cage gives you the Delaram weapon for Gustave.

Exit the cave, turn right, and jump down. Head straight for a Colour of Lumina.

Now go back and fight the Hexga. It hits hard, but its attack patterns are readable. After defeating it, you get Pictos – Confident. Before moving on, check inside the wreckage of what looks like Expedition 78’s airship for Pictos – Breaking Counter.

Go through the tunnel ahead. Use the grapple point to cross the gap, and pick up the Colour of Lumina on the right side after crossing.

Follow the path to an open area where the route splits. Take the left path first. Defeat the Reaper Cultist to earn Pictos – Energising Pain and Sciel Weapon – Chation. This weapon is excellent for Sciel since it applies 10 Foretell stacks on every Sun Skill use. Continue to find Journal – Expedition 56.

Cross the bridge and defeat the Greatsword Cultists blocking the way. After the fight, look left to find a gazebo with a Colour of Lumina inside. Before taking the main path, check the right side for climbable ledges. Get up there, kill the enemy, and grab Pictos – First Strike behind it.

Head back down and use the grapple point to cross the gap. Pick up Chroma x790 on the right, then speak with the shade of the Young Boy for some story development. Continue left to find Expedition Flag: Paintress Shrine.

Paintress Shrine

From the flag, turn left and defeat the two Rocher enemies. They’re guarding a Healing Tint Shard, take it before heading back. Return to the flag and head down the main path.

Grab the Energy Tint Shard just below the Paintress statue, then cross the rock bridge ahead. A Rocher ambushes you partway across, deal with it and keep moving.

Hug the left wall until you find Journal – Expedition 50. At the cliff edge, look for broken stairs and use the grapple point to reach a floating island with Chroma x3,160. From there, use a second grapple point on the right for another Chroma x1,580.

Follow the path to some handholds, climb up, and you’re back on the main path. Fight the enemy on the middle path for extra XP and Chroma, then turn left into a large cavern.

Kill the first patrol, then look right for a sloped path. Follow it to grab the Colour of Lumina at the end, then head back and get Pictos – SOS Power just behind the statue.

Drop down and continue through the lantern-lit tunnel. Grapple across the gap, pick up Chroma x790 on the right, and use the magic rope to reach the ledge above. Follow the path and activate Expedition Flag: Old Farm.

Abandoned Farm

Right as you continue from the flag, there’s Chroma x790 on the right. Follow the route behind the house and clear out the Reaper Cultist and Greatsword Cultists as you go.

Behind the large rock in the middle of the path, pick up a Polished Chroma Catalyst. Keep going and crawl through the small opening ahead to meet Jerijeri, a Gestral Merchant selling Sciel Haircut – Ponytail. Defeat him in combat, and he’ll also sell Sciel Weapon – Rangeson.

Activate the magic rope beside him, it creates a shortcut back to the area entrance. Then return to Expedition Flag: Old Farm.

Going down the slope, look left at the windmill. Drop down there and grab the Polished Chroma Catalyst.

Past the windmill, take the path on the left to find another Paint Cage.

  • First lock: turn left from the cage, on top of the stone wall between pillars.
  • Second lock: keep turning left, look slightly below you in front of a hut.
  • Third lock: keep turning left, just beside the tall tree. Opening it gives you Maelle Weapon – Duenum.

After opening the cage, move forward and kill the Hexga and Rocher ahead. Before going further, head back toward the starting slope. Halfway down on the right side, there’s a yard with a Pétank in it.

Chase the Pétank out of the yard and follow it down the slope. Take the first side passage on the right to keep tracking it. Inside, there’s a cracked platform where the fight happens.

The Pétank summons Nevron bodyguards, kill them immediately, because hitting the Pétank while the guards are alive does nothing to it. Defeating it rewards Polished Chroma Catalyst x5, Colour of Lumina x5, and a Recoat.

Go back to the yard where you first found the Pétank and follow the path behind it. As you pass through the tunnel, look left for another Colour of Lumina.

Follow the path upward and right, then climb across the handholds. On the far side, a friendly Hexga starts a side quest, it wants glowing crystals, which you’ll find just ahead. Go into the cave and activate Expedition Flag: Tide Caverns.

Tide Caverns

Follow the cave path and grapple through the gap. Use the magic rope to descend deeper into the cave. Kill the patrolling enemies first, then find the three Rock Crystals for the Hexga’s quest.

  • First crystal: along the left wall of the cave where you first descended.
  • Second crystal: just behind the large rock pillar in the center, there’s also a Colour of Lumina nearby.
  • Third crystal: head to the far right side of the cavern. As you approach the magic rope, a glowing Rocher attacks, defeat it to get the crystal. Don’t miss the Colour of Lumina just outside where you fought it.

At the bottom, turn left immediately for a Recoat. Then defeat the Gold Chevalière to earn Pictos – Perilous Parry. Collect Chroma x3,160 on the left and enter the door to the Manor.

You’re back in the Manor, but this time you’re in a bedroom. Interact with the wardrobe on the left for Maelle Outfit – Skirt. Inspect the window if you want, then head downstairs to find Expedition Flag: Entrance and exit through the main door back to Tide Caverns.

Before going further, return to the friendly Hexga and deliver the three crystals. After it moves, grab Pictos – Auto Shell.

Head back into the cave and down the magic rope. Take the path with flower petals on the left, near where you found the first crystal. When the path splits, go right and parkour across to find Pictos – Breaking Shots.

Return to the split and take the left path. Grapple across the gap and defeat the Greatsword Cultists ahead. Along the right wall is a Colour of Lumina.

Before heading up, check the destroyed building on the left. Find the lever beside a table on the far side and pull it to open the door. Go upstairs and turn right for Chroma x3,160.

Exit the building and use the magic rope to reach the ledges above. Activate Expedition Flag: Basalt Waves.

Flooded Buildings

Turn around from the flag and look for a grapple point on the left. Cross over and use a second grapple point to reach Expedition Flag: Flooded Buildings.

Go through the door and down the stairs. Head outside and kill the patrolling Rocher. At the path split, enter the building on the left first. Exit from the upper floor and use the handholds on the right wall to climb down to a hidden area with a Revive Tint Shard.

Climb back up and continue along the path, taking down a Greatsword Cultist along the way. At the end, collect the Recoat and interact with the ripple to create a new shortcut.

Turn back and look for a grapple point on the right. Zip through it to get Pictos – Enfeebling Mark. Return through the building to the path split, then grapple to the right building and keep going until you find climbable ledges on the right for a Colour of Lumina.

Further along, defeat a Hexga and its allies, then check the nearby impaled corpse for Pictos – Healing Tint Energy. Use the magic rope ahead to enter the building above. Go through the second door and immediately look left, there are handholds leading to Lune Weapon – Coralim.

Drop down, go downstairs, and use the grapple point to return to Expedition Flag: Basalt Waves.

Boss: Lampmaster

Rest at the flag and spend any remaining Skill and Attribute Points before entering the cave ahead. A cutscene plays, then the fight starts.

The Lampmaster is a floating mass of lanterns, tentacles, and arms. It has two phases.

Phase One: It has three main attacks to watch for. The Jump Attack is a leaping spear slam, read the windup and dodge. Light Projectiles trigger when the lights go out, four quick projectiles come in succession, so be ready to dodge. The Lamp Power Attack hits the whole party and is the most dangerous counter when you see the purple flash.

Apply Mark whenever you can and prioritize parries and counterattacks. Lune’s Ice Lance slows the boss. With Sciel, get into Twilight Mode and stack 20 Foretells before using Phantom Blade. Maelle’s physical damage is strong here, especially with Mark applied.

Phase Two: Four attacks to deal with. Sword of Light is a horizontal slash hitting the full party. Ball of Light is a large projectile, jump over it. Lamp Ritual is the most important one: watch the order the lamps light up and shoot them in the same sequence to damage the boss and prevent its Sword of Light. The 4-Hit Combo comes either as arm strikes or a flying combo sequence, dodge through it.

After the Lampmaster goes down, watch the cutscenes. Another boss fight triggers immediately after, this time with Gustave alone.

Boss: White-Haired Man

You finally fight the mysterious White-Haired Man directly. The fight is straightforward, he won’t attack you, and your damage against him is minimal. Just keep hitting him until the Overcharge meter is fully charged, then activate Overcharge to end the fight.

A cutscene plays, concluding Act 1. You’re introduced to a new character, Verso, before heading to camp. Next, you’re out on the world map again to travel to Forgotten Battlefield.
