Spring Meadows is the first area outside the city in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It’s where the game teaches you its core mechanics, combat, exploration, and collectibles. This walkthrough covers every item, enemy, and secret in the area so you don’t miss anything before moving on.

When you first arrive, turn around before following the path. There’s a Chroma x180 near the waterfall behind you. Chroma is used for upgrades later, so grab everything you see.
Follow the main path and open the Expedition Status UI when the game prompts you. It shows your current objective, a compass, your party’s health, and how many Chroma Elixirs you have left. Elixirs are your healing items. They’re limited, but refills every time you rest at a camp.
First Combat

Walk into the clearing, and a cutscene plays, then you fight your first enemy: a Lancelier. This fight introduces free aiming, hold L2 to aim, and shoot at the glowing weak points on the enemy. Each shot costs 1 AP, so don’t spam it mindlessly.
After the fight, use the grapple point on the path, keep following the trail, climb the wall at the end, and head into the cave.
Meeting Lune

A cutscene introduces Lune, your second party member. Right after, you fight a Portier as a tutorial for how she plays.
Lune works around Elemental Stains, her attacks leave stains (Ice, Fire, Lightning, Earth, or Light) on her weapon, and other skills consume those stains for stronger effects.
The tutorial walks you through it: use Ice Lance to generate an Ice and Light Stain, then use Immolation to apply two Fire Stains and consume the Ice Stain for bonus damage. That cycle of generating and consuming stains is the core of how Lune fights.
Elements also matter against enemies. Every enemy has affinities:
- Weak to an element = takes 50% more damage
- Resistant = takes 50% less
- Nullify or Absorb = no damage, or the enemy heals
After the fight, you receive Pictos – Dodger.
Meadows Corridor

Exit the cave and follow the path until you pass under a huge tree root. You’ll hit your first Expedition Flag: Meadows Corridor.
These flags are your checkpoints. Interact with them to fully heal your party, refill Elixirs, spend Skill and Attribute Points, and respawn enemies if you need to grind. Always stop at these when you see them.
The game also teaches you that hitting an enemy before the fight starts gives you the first strike. That’s a big deal in a turn-based game, so always try to attack first.

Defeat the Lancelier on the path to get the Lanceram, a new weapon for Gustave. Then grab Chroma x180 on the slope to the right. Check the small dead-end on the right side of the path for Pictos – Critical Burn, a solid early upgrade for Lune.
The House Area

Before going inside the house, take the sloped path on the left and climb to the top for Chroma x180, then drop down and head to the house. Kill the Lanceliers at the entrance. Inside, turn right to grab the Chroma Catalyst in the corner.

Climb the slope on the left, use the magic rope to reach the upper level, then turn right and go back down the slope. Check underneath that slope for an Energy Tint Shard. Go through the hole in the wall and pick up Chroma x360 next to a dead body outside.
Head back inside, take the path that leads outside again, and at the bottom of the slope, activate the Expedition Flag: Grand Meadow.
Grand Meadow
You have two paths from the flag. The right one continues the main story, but go left first, there’s more to collect.

Left path:
- Overlooking the green waterfall on the right → Chroma x180
- Near some debris on the left → Chroma x180
- Kill the Lancelier blocking the way → Chroma x180 under the tree just past where it stood
- There’s a grapple point nearby that leads to the second Mime, a much tougher fight than anything you’ve seen so far. Beat it for Gustave Outfit – Baguette and Gustave Haircut – Baguette. If you’re not feeling confident yet, skip it and come back later.
Right path (main route):

Head back to the Expedition Flag and now take the right path. Kill the Portier, then check under the tree behind where it stood for a Colour of Lumina. On a small ledge with crates across from that tree, there’s a Chroma Catalyst.
Keep going until a cutscene introduces the Volesters, flying enemies that are good at dodging melee. Use free aim shots to deal with them reliably.

After the fight, check the right side of the area. There’s a Chromatic Lancelier, an elite version of the regular enemy that hits much harder. It has a dangerous forward jab and a two-hit combo that can knock out a character in one or two hits, so dodge and parry carefully.
Beat it, and you’ll get Pictos – Augmented Attack, Lanceram Lv 2, 2x Chroma Catalysts, and 5x Colour of Lumina, plus Chroma x180 behind where it stood. If it feels too strong right now, just grab the Chroma and come back later.

Use the magic rope to keep going. At the top, walk all the way to the far edge of the platform and look over the ledge, there’s Chroma x720 down there. Pick it up and climb back up.
Use the grapple points to move forward. There’s a group of enemies on the right side guarding Chroma x180, kill them and grab it. Follow the main trail to a climbing wall, go up, and enter the cave.
Abandoned Expeditioner Camp
Inside the cave, a cutscene plays where you find Journal – Expedition 81 and meet Jar, a friendly Nevron who gives you your first side quest. Activate the Expedition Flag: Abandoned Expeditioner Camp nearby.

When you leave the cave, go right along the upper path first to find Pictos – Dead Energy II. Then come back to the cave exit and go left to pick up Pictos – Burning Shots.
Head down the slope. You’ll meet a new enemy type: Abbests. They use magic, eruptions from the ground, and large spears that fall from above. They look dramatic, but they’re manageable. Beating the first group gives you Lighterim, a new weapon for Lune.

After that fight, turn back and look toward the cave, there’s a Colour of Lumina there. Then continue ahead to the bridge area.

- Upper-left path past the bridge → kill the Abbest → Chroma Catalyst behind it
- Under the bridge → kill another Abbest → Colour of Lumina
- Past the bridge → kill one more Abbest → Resin in the nearby corner (this is what Jar needs for his quest)
- Small path to the left of the incline → Revive Tint Shard, useful for the fights ahead

Go back to Jar and give him the Resin. After the dialogue, use Lune to shoot the tip of his staff to light it. Talk to him again, and he gives you a Healing Tint Shard.
The Indigo Tree & Boss Fight
From where you grabbed the Resin, take the ramp up. At the top is the Expedition Flag: The Indigo Tree. Use it, there’s a boss right ahead, so spend any Skill and Attribute Points you’ve saved up before moving on.
Boss: Évêque

Before you can damage the boss’s health bar, you need to break its shields first. Each hit removes one shield, so use multi-hit skills to clear them faster.
Gustave’s Lumiere Assault is great here, it strips shields and builds his Overcharge at the same time. Once the shields are down, attack the weak point for extra damage.
What the boss does:
- Spear Slam — slow windup into a heavy slam on one character; there’s a two-handed version too. Read the windup and dodge or parry it.
- Eruption — sends three energy blasts tracking your party one after another. Parry or dodge on the third one.
- Summon — calls two Abbests to help. Kill them as soon as they appear before focusing on the boss again.
Element tips:
- Évêque absorbs Earth damage, so don’t use any of Lune’s Earth skills here.
- It’s weak to Ice, so use Ice Lance every chance you get, that’s +50% damage, plus it applies Slow to the boss.
Near the end of the fight, the boss charges up, and its weak spot reappears. Hit it between its attacks to deal big damage.
Rewards: Cleansing Tint + Chroma Catalyst x5
Before Leaving

After the boss, take the path on the right to find Pictos – Empowering Attack. Use the magic rope nearby to descend and grab the Colour of Lumina below.
Once you have everything, head back to the top of the tree and walk into the swirling energy to leave Spring Meadows. The world map opens up, and your next destination is Flying Waters.
