Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Esquie’s Nest Walkthrough

Esquie’s Nest is the next area after Gestral Village. There is a new boss to fight, more collectibles to grab, and a new ability waiting at the end. Here is everything you need to get through it.

How to Get to Esquie’s Nest

Once you are back on the main continent, head east. Keep going until you see a large statue head with spike-like points on top. You were in this spot before when you found the lost Gestral outside the Ancient Sanctuary. Look at the base of the statue and you will find a portal. Walk into it to enter Esquie’s Nest.

Entrance

Follow the path straight ahead and you will come to Expedition Flag 66 on your left. Rest here if you need to. The area splits from this point but do not take the left path just yet.

Head right first. It leads to a small cave with a Colour of Lumina inside. Pick it up and come back to the flag.

Now take the left path. A little way down, you will meet a Gestral NPC named Sunniso. Walking up to him starts a short scene where he asks for a password before letting you through. Sciel jokes that Gustave should be the one to say it. Once the scene is done, continue through the long cave tunnel ahead.

At the end of the tunnel, some lantern lights appear and your characters start talking in the background. You will reach a large bridge just ahead, but do not cross it yet. There are items on both sides down below.

Drop down to the right side of the bridge first. A Mime is waiting here. Beat it to get the Baguette Outfit and Baguette Haircut for Sciel. After the fight, check the ground where the Mime was standing and you will find some glowing mushrooms. Walk over them to pick one up. Use the handholds on the wall to climb back up to the bridge.

Now drop down to the left side. There is a Petank moving around in this area. Chase it onto the yellow glowing tile on the right side of the path to force it into a fight. The Petank will try to run, so stay on it and do not let it escape. Defeating it rewards you with five Polished Chroma Catalysts, one Recoat, and five Colours of Lumina.

Climb back up to the bridge and cross to the other side. The path opens up into a wide area with stairs in the middle. Go up to the first landing and look left to find some Chroma sitting there. Then climb up to the second landing. A cutscene plays here and you meet Esquie for the first time.

Esquie tells you that Florrie has been stolen by his archnemesis Francois, and he wants you to get it back. When the scene ends, take the path on the right side of Esquie and follow it to the end. Use the grapple on the pillar in front of you to swing across to the other side.

Once you land, go right first and collect the Colour of Lumina there. Then turn around and head the other way. You will see Expedition Flag 66, this time marked as Francois’ Cave, on your left. Rest up if you need to, then head inside the cave.

Francois’ Cave

A scene with Francois plays as soon as you enter, and the boss fight starts immediately after it ends. Francois has five shields at the start of the fight, but they are not too hard to work through. The main thing to watch out for is his big attack called “Francois uses the strongest Ice Attack ever.” It will kill you in one hit if it connects, so dodge it every single time he uses it.

After you win the fight, you receive the Augmented First Strike Pictos. A short cutscene plays and then two paths open up. One leads back toward the Expedition Flag and the other has a rope going up. Take the rope path. Climb up and follow the path at the top. You will pass 1,305 Chroma along the way so make sure to grab it. At the far end of the path, jump across to a stone pillar to collect a Colour of Lumina.

Back to Esquie

Make your way back to Esquie. Walking up to him triggers another cutscene. He tells you that what you brought back is not actually Florrie. After a short back and forth, he flies off and knocks a pillar over on his way out. Walk to the fallen pillar and use the grapple to cross to the other side.

Follow the path forward. When the road splits, take the small side path to the right and pick up Expedition Journal 66. Come back to the main path and keep going. There is a rock ahead — use the grapple to get across it.

A bit further along, you will reach a ledge. At the far end of it, the Energising Start III Pictos is sitting there waiting. Grab it, then jump off the ledge. You will land back near the first Expedition Flag at the entrance. From here, follow the same path you used to come in and head to the exit portal to return to the continent.

Just before the area ends, you will unlock a new ability called Esquie. From now on, you can press Square at any point while on the continent to summon him. Your next stop after Esquie’s Nest is Stone Wave Cliffs.
