Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Forgotten Battlefield Walkthrough

The Forgotten Battlefield is the first major area you explore as Verso in Act 2. There are multiple branching paths, a good number of collectibles, and two boss fights before the area wraps up. Here is everything you need.

How to Get to the Forgotten Battlefield

When Act 2 begins, you are back at camp as Verso. Walk to Expedition Flag 33 and rest. You will see Sciel and Maelle sitting near the cliff, talking to them does nothing useful at this point. Head to the campfire, interact with it, and choose “Go to sleep.” A cutscene called The Next Morning plays between Maelle and Verso. After it ends, you unlock Esquie’s swimming ability and land on a small island on the world map.

Press Square to mount Esquie and swim north toward the Forgotten Battlefield. Before going through the main entrance, check among the wrecked ships to the left of the gate to find a Colour of Lumina.

Main Gate

A cutscene plays as soon as you enter. Maelle wants to bury Gustave, but an enemy shows up mid-conversation and a fight against a Chalier begins right away. This battle introduces a new mechanic called the Gradient Attack. You can defend against it using the Gradient Counter by pressing R2.

Verso also has a grading system tied to his fighting style. He starts at D rank during combat and can work his way up to S rank as the fight goes on.

After beating the Chalier, follow the main path through the wrecked ships toward the large gate ahead. At the base of the gate you will find Expedition Flag: Main Gate. Rest here. Once you go through the gate, check the wooden platform on your right to grab a Polished Chroma Catalyst.

Continue along the main path until it forks. A Chalier is patrolling this area, defeat it to receive the Ramasson weapon for Sciel and the Longer Shell Pictos.

From the fork, three paths open up. Go through them one at a time. Take the left path first and immediately turn right. A path leads downward; follow it. It splits into three again at the bottom. Take the first left to find the Energising Start IV Pictos. Come back to that split and take the middle path, then turn right to collect 3,950 Chroma. You can skip the right path from the split — it only has a scouting enemy and nothing worth grabbing.

Go back to the main fork and take the left path again, but this time follow the path that goes further down. It will split into two. Take the left branch and keep walking until you reach a Troubadour guarding a Colour of Lumina. Defeat it and pick up the item.

Climb the nearby stairs and take on the group of three Ramasseurs and a Troubadour waiting at the top. After the fight, go through the tall windows on the left and break the boxes inside for a Recoat. From the base of the wooden ramp behind where the enemies were standing, look left to find a Healing Tint Shard. Head up the ramp, beat the Troubadour at the top, and grab the glowing item there for the Sweet Kill Pictos.

Drop back down and return to where the path split. This time take the right branch. Follow it to near the dead end to find another Colour of Lumina.

Head back to the three-way split and take the right path now. Push through some rubble and you will run into a Chalier alongside a Troubadour and a Ramasseur. Beating them gives you the Troubadim weapon for Lune at level 8. Loot the 988 Chroma nearby after the fight.

Return to the three-way split one more time and take the path straight ahead. Before going up the slope, check the small lower path branching off to the left to find a Revive Tint Shard. Then head up the slope and across the wooden ramp to reach Expedition Flag: Vanguard Point. Rest here.

Fort Ruins

Before continuing at Vanguard Point, there is another area worth visiting. Go back down the wooden ramp you just came up and look for ledges you can climb on the side. Follow that path up to reach Expedition Flag: Fort Ruins.

After resting, go through the door and jump to the other side. At the bottom of the stairs, a Troubadour is waiting, defeat it to enter a wider open area with more enemies inside. On the right side, stairs lead up to a building with a Chalier walking around it. Go into the building and look for a small room on the right side straight away. There is a Colour of Lumina inside.

Head back outside to the section where the Chalier is roaming. Take it down and move to the ledge beyond it to find the Energising Death Pictos.

Go back to the open area and take the other path. Three Chaliers are standing around a purple loot beam, defeat them and collect the Colour of Lumina on the ground. Nearby, stairs go down to a door at the bottom. Before you reach the door, find the lever on the wall and press Square to interact with it. This opens a shortcut back to the start of the area. With Fort Ruins cleared, make your way back to Expedition Flag: Vanguard Point.

Vanguard Point

From the Vanguard Point flag, look left and you will see a fallen metal column. Use it to get down to the lower area below. Break the crates down there to find an Energy Tint Shard. Follow the path and beat the Ramasseur you come across.

Keep going until you reach an intersection where a fading woman is standing. She says she has no interest in talking to you. You do not need to interact with her and just note where she is standing, as you will be coming back here.

Take the right path from the intersection first. Head down the ramp into the trench below. A Chalier is patrolling ahead with a Colour of Lumina near it. Before you reach them, the path turns left and right. Take the left turn first to pick up Journal Expedition 41. Then take the right turn and use the magic rope to climb up. At the top, grab the Empowering Tint Pictos. Jump down from there and collect the 1,975 Chroma on the ground. An optional boss fight against the Chromatic Luster is also here.

Boss Fight: Chromatic Luster

The Chromatic Luster is weak to Lightning, so use Lune’s Lightning skills as much as possible. Do not use Fire attacks at all, as the boss absorbs them and heals from them. It can also consume any Burn status on itself to recover health, so avoid anything that causes Burn. Winning the fight gives you the Lusteson weapon for Sciel and the Energising Parry Pictos.

Battlefield

After the fight, go back to the Fading Woman and take the path behind her to the left. Walk around to the back of the rock formation behind the Expedition Flag to find a Colour of Lumina. Come back to the flag and take the right turn, then immediately turn left. You will see some Chroma in the distance. Go and grab it. Return to the main area where a Chalier is patrolling and break the crates in the area to find 1,975 Chroma.

At the back of this area, there is a cracked glowing pedestal. A Petank is nearby, find it and chase it onto the pedestal to start the fight. Beating it gives you five Polished Chroma Catalysts, one Recoat, and five Colours of Lumina. Once this area is done, head back to the Fading Woman.

Back to Vanguard Point

Follow the path behind the Fading Woman. It splits into two. The left path leads to a dead end that you will need for a Paint Cage later. Head right first and immediately turn left into a small side area where the Paint Cage is sitting.

The cage has three locks to break:

The first lock is among the crates on the wooden platform right next to the cage. The second is above the trench, look back in the direction you came from, and shoot up. The third is on the left, the dead-end path you skipped earlier, hidden behind some crates.

Once all three locks are broken, go back to the Paint Cage and open it to get a Chroma Elixir.

Continue following the path out of the grassy area. Journal Expedition 57 will be sitting right in front of you as you enter the next section. Enter the ruin behind the journal, and you will find a magic rope inside. Climb it to meet Kasumi, a Gestral merchant at the top. He sells the Benisim weapon for Lune, the Inverted Affinity Pictos, and the Maelle Outfit Obscur (but the outfit is only available if you defeat him in a one-on-one fight). Choose one of your expeditioners for the duel.

After dealing with Kasumi, either climb back down the rope or jump out through the window. Head through the nearby stone archway to reach Expedition Flag: Ancient Bridge. Rest here before moving on.

Ancient Bridge

Walking past the flag triggers a cutscene showing Maelle having an emotional breakdown. The boss fight against Dualliste starts right after.

Boss Fight: Dualliste

Dualliste is weak to Light element attacks and resists both Fire and Dark. There is no visible weak point on the boss, so just focus on using Light attacks whenever you can throughout the fight.

Winning gives you the Dualiso weapon for Verso and the Combo Attack I Pictos, followed by a short cutscene. When it ends, follow the path ahead to a set of ropes. Climb the first set, and before using the second set, check the small hole in the wall nearby for a Colour of Lumina. After climbing the second rope, you land on a platform and use the grapple to cross to the other side and reach the top.

At the top, follow the main path. You will see a grapple option on the right side. Ignore it for now and keep moving forward. The path splits into two. Take the right branch and look to your left on the narrow path to find the Revive Tint Energy Pictos. Grab it and come back to the main path.

Keep following the path until you reach an area with a tree that has red leaves. A cutscene plays showing the group burying Gustave’s hand. When it ends, walk forward to leave the Forgotten Battlefield and return to camp.
