Genshin Impact Support Tier List

Genshin Impact currently has 113 playable characters as of Luna V. This is an updated version of these characters (that have support capabilities, can be considered as such, or have been considered as such) ranked based on their support capabilities. They will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  1. Flexibility:
    • How many “good” teams/team archetypes does the character have, and how many different characters/character archetypes can this use as teammates to make a “good” team?
  2. Peak team performance:
    • How much team damage does the team deal in their best team?
  3. Field time:
    • How much field time does the character take up?

Things that are not evaluated:

  1. Sub DPS capability
    • How much damage the character deals is not evaluated.

The following assumptions are made:

  1. Neutral and still enemy
    • No enemies with special mechanics (e.g., Frostnight Herra) or resistances (e.g., Pyro Hypostasis)
    • We will not assume enemies fly up for three minutes to say Ganyu and Lyney are the best
    • Both single-target and AOE will be evaluated
  2. Mediocre Primogem investment
    • No 5* constellations or limited weapons. However, 5* characters with free selectable constellations will be evaluated at C1. While they won’t be evaluated, 5* characters with notably strong early constellations or signature weapons will be noted
      • Standard 5* characters will be evaluated with relatively higher constellations
    • We will assume that 4* characters will generally be at C6. However, we know that it will be hard for players to have newer or niche 4* C6. We will note whether they receive major upgrades from later constellations
    • Amber, Lisa, and Kaeya will not be evaluated at C6
  3. Equal resin investment
    • We will not compare a top 1% Fischl to a bottom 1% Ineffa and declare that Fischl is conclusively better
  4. Mediocre gameplay levels
    • We will assume you can do something like dash cancel Hu Tao or Nefer’s charged attacks. However, we won’t assume you can do something like Skirk’s walk cancels or Mavuika’s insane combos

Explanations

SS

These characters are the strongest in the game

  1. Furina
    • Furina is arguably the support with the highest pull value in the game. She provides insane DMG% buffs that work for practically all main DPS and sub DPS characters, even Physical ones. Furthermore, she has extremely good off-field Hydro application, which is very useful in almost all situations. She has some additional particle generation as well. Even though she does warrant running a healer (preferably a strong teamwide one), her HP fluctuation mechanics can also enable the Marechausse Hunter artifact set on many characters, which provides a solid 36% CRIT Rate and Normal and Charged Attack DMG% Bonus that can also be situationally useful. Additionally, she has extremely powerful healing if need be used for sustain purposes, though that is generally not advised.
  2. Bennett
    • For primarily attack scaling characters without any special team restrictions, Bennett is one of the best teammates out of all options. He provides an insane amount of attack as well as great sustain. At C6, he also provides some Pyro DMG% Bonus for Pyro carries and sub DPS cahracters who can effectively use his buffs.
  3. Xilonen
    • Xilonen is an extremely strong option for characters who deal PHEC (Pyro, Hydro, Electro, Cryo) or Geo damage who also scale on DMG% Bonus. She has great RES shred and particle generation through her elemental skill, and she can also grant DMG% Bonuses by equipping the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City artifact set. Finally, her burst provides exceptional single-target healing that can synergize extremely well with Furina or provide sustain in general
  4. Lauma
    • Lauma is the strongest support for Bloom-based teams, and she is the most essential character for those teams, especially in Lunar-Bloom. She provides consistent off-field Dendro application and particle generation, and her elemental skill also provides Dendro RES Shred and Hydro RES Shred. Her elemental burst also provides an insane buff to Lunar-Bloom, Bloom, Burgeon, and Hyperbloom damage, making her an essential character to these reactions. Additionally, her other talents also give CRIT to the subset of transformative reactions, which is an extremely strong buff never seen before at C0 that can increase overall team DPS by a significant margin. Finally, she can provide Moonsign if needed.
  5. Citlali
    • Citlali is essential for Melt and a nice addition for Freeze teams by possessing the best off-field Cryo application in the game. She also has 20% Pryo and Hydro RES% Shred, significantly increasing damage dealt by those elements. Furthermore, she can equip the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City artifact set to provide a solid DMG% Bonus to all characters. As a catalyst, she can also equip Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers (TTDS) to give the main DPS a 40% attack bonus. However, in some teams (most notably Skirk or similar freeze teams), activating both buffs at the same time can be tricky. Still, she is extremely powerful and finally provides a shield for extra comfort.
  6. Sucrose
    • Sucrose has seen her stocks rise in the current Lunar meta. As an Anemo character, she can equip Viridescent Venerer to shred enemy RES by 40%. She also has decent crowd control through her elemental skill and burst. Furthermore, her kit also has EM share baked into it, allowing the on-field character to gain a significant amount (sometimes up to 250) of EM. As a catalyst user, she can equip TTDS to buff the on-field character’s attack by 40%. In edge cases where some of these buffs are not needed (Nefer teams), she can equip Instructors to further increase the EM share gained by the team.

SS-

These are also some of the strongest support characters in the game, though their support capabilities may be weaker, less versatile, or less desirable.

  1. Escoffier
    • Escoffier is essential for Freeze-based teams, as she can provide 55% RES Shred for both Hydro and Cryo. Furthermore, she has extremely strong healing that synergizes very well with Furina. While her buffs are extremely strong, her kit is extremely restrictive in teambuilding, requiring all four team members to be Hydro or Cryo. Still, she can somewhat compete in Melt due to the fact that she applies Cryo as fast as Citlali.
  2. Chevreuse
    • Chevreuse is in a very similar situation to Escoffier, only providing an insane amount of RES Shred and DMG% Bonus in Overload teams. She also has the same team restrictions of requiring all four team members to be Pyro or Electro. However, Escoffier is slightly stronger, and Chevreuse does have slightly more teambuilding restrictions since she requires her team to have both consistent Pyro and Electro application. Below C6, she is quite bad outside her niche, unlike Escoffier. At C6, however, she does provide unconditional DMG% Bonus that allows her to be played in non-Overload teams.
  3. Columbina
    • Columbina is an essential support in Lunar teams, which are the strongest teams in the game. She provides 40% Lunar DMG Bonus as well as decent off-field Hydro application. Furthermore, she provides many other intangible or unquantifiable bonuses (e.g., more Verdant Dew in Lunar Bloom) that provide for much better damage and smoother gameplay. However, she is quite unique in the fact that she requires Ineffa, Flins, Nefer (to an extent), or Zibai to provide her proper support, making her one of the most restrictive supports in the game. Her support value in non-Lunar teams or without non-Lunar DPS characters is quite terrible.
  4. Durin
    • Durin has great RES Shred for elements that are not Cryo or Hydro, providing almost as much value as Xilonen or Anemo units. Furthermore, he also has great versatility. Coupled with his great off-field Pyro application and energy generation, he is quite a solid support unit. He can also enable Hexerei resonance for other Hexerei units.

S+

These are still some of the strongest support characters in the game, though their support capabilities may be weaker, less versatile, or less desirable.

  1. Kaedehara Kazuha
    • Kazuha has the best crowd control in the game, making him a top-tier support and practically a must-have in multi-target situations. However, that is completely nullified in single-target scenarios. Still, as an Anemo unit, he can equip VV, and he has DMG% Bonus share built into his kit, making him extremely strong. He can also use his burst to continually apply elements from off-field which can be situationally useful (e.g., as an alternative for Sunfire Jean)
  2. Iansan
    • Iansan can provide as much, if not more, attack than Bennett to the active character. However, her buffs are extremely situational and require a lot of movement from the active character, limiting her generally to Natlan and Plunge DPS characters. Her sustain is also relatively lacking compared to Bennett. Still, she can also equip Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City for DMG% Bonus share, and her C6 can also provide some.
  3. Nahida
    • Unfortunately for her, Nahida has been powercrept by Lauma in all Bloom-based teams. Still, that does not mean that Nahida is weak. She has great Dendro application and EM share for teammates, making her an extremely good Deepwood holder. Furthermore, her burst also increases her own sub-DPS. Nahida is also the premiere Dendro off-fielder in Quicken-based teams and the second-best Dendro off-fielder in Burning-based Teams, especially in Burnmelt or Burnvape where her EM share is much more useful.

S

These are still strong support characters in the game, though their support capabilities may be weaker, less versatile, or less desirable.

  1. Lan Yan
    • Lan Yan has lots of utility in her kit, being able to equip VV and TTDS to provide 40% RES Shred and ATK% Bonus to the on-field character. Furthermore, she also has the strongest shield against PHEC attacks at C2. However, this is not quite as desirable as offensive support options that top-tier options provide.
  2. Yelan
    • Yelan provides great off-field Hydro application whenever the on-fielder uses normal attacks. She also provides a ramping DMG% Bonus and decent particle generation, especially with Favonius.
  3. Mona
    • Mona’s Hydro application isn’t as great, but with her new Hexerei buffs, she can provide a lot of damage against a target in her Omen. She can also hold TTDS for a 40% ATK buff to the on-fielder.
  4. Nilou
    • Nilou has okay-ish Hydro application, though it isn’t the best. However, she also provides massive buffs in pure Dendro-Hydro comps, which is very notable in Lunar-Bloom teams. This is further exemplified with her C2, and her constellations are free to pick up.
  5. Xingqiu
    • Xingqiu has great Hydro application; as a solo-Hydro option, he can enable Vaporize for most Pyro DPS characters. However, the rest of his supportive capabilities are quite mid.
  6. Mavuika
    • Mavuika has great off-field Pyro application, which is particularly useful in Overload teams with Electro DPSes. Furthermore, she can hold Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City to provide the team with a large amount of DMG% Bonus.
  7. Fischl
    • Fischl has great off-field Electro application, which particularly useful in Overload teams with Pyro DPSes. Her Hexerei resonance also gives lots of ATK% or EM to the team, depending on the reactions triggered by the team. She also generates a lot of Energy, particularly for Electro characters.
  8. Aino
    • Aino has decent Hydro application in Ascendant Gleam teams. With her constellations, she can support Lunar DPS characters a lot.
  9. Baizhu
    • Baizhu is a great sustain option in Dendro teams. He is also particularly good in Bloom or Lunar-Bloom teams as his Ascension talents allow him to buff Bloom/Lunar-Bloom damage.
  10. Ororon
    • Like Fischl, Ororon provides off-field Electro application. Furthermore, he can also equip the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City artifact set to provide DMG% Bonus to the whole team. However, he has pretty restrictive teambuilding, requiring Nightsoul or Electro-Charged

A

These are still decently strong support characters in the game, though their support capabilities may be weaker, less versatile, or less desirable.

  1. Zhongli
    • Zhongli has the strongest shield in the game, though many stronger characters (e.g., Citlali, Ineffa) have decently strong shields that are serviceable enough. He also has 20% Universal RES Shred, which can be nice for elements that don’t have much of it. His pillar can also have some interesting techs with Lunar-Crystallized
  2. Rosaria
    • Rosaria is a strong Cryo support, as she is a great battery and can provide a strong amount of CRIT Rate. However, her application is not as strong by itself, and her buffs are much weaker than characters like Citlali or Escoffier
  3. Layla
    • Layla has the second-strongest shield in the game and can slot decently as a supplemental Cryo slot. She can equip ToTM or Noblesse if needed.
  4. Diona
    • Diona is very similar to Layla, but she has a much worse shield in exchange for healing. Her constellations can enable her to provide some EM buffing for the team, though that is a niche buff as many of Diona’s teams don’t want EM.
  5. Mualani
    • Mualani can equip Scroll and TTDS
  6. Kachina
    • Kachina can equip Scroll
  7. Venti
    • Venti can equip VV to shred RES%. Additionally, his burst has some of the best crowd control in the game against smaller enemies.
  8. Sangonomiya Kokomi
    • Kokomi has some of the strongest healing in the game, though is it generally overkill; furthermore, many other supports do more than have only strong healing. However, her healing and Hydro application can be especially useful in Bloom or Lunar-Bloom teams.
  9. Jean
    • Jean has strong teamwide healing that synergizes well with Furina. She can also equip VV to shred resistances, and she can be paired with some teammates (e.g., Bennett) to consistently apply elements to enemies. She also has some funny techs with fall damage.
  10. Dehya
    • Dehya has decent off-field Pyro application. Furthermore, she has great supportive defensive capabilities and is relatively easy to obtain.
  11. Pyro Traveler
    • Pyro Traveler also has pretty nice off-field Pyro application. Pyro Traveler can also equip Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City to provide a teamwide DMG% Bonus.

B

These are still okay support characters in the game, though their support capabilities may be weaker, less versatile, or less desirable.

  1. Ineffa
    • Ineffa has good off-field Electro application and provides a decently strong shield for sustain. She also provides Moonsign for teams that want it.
  2. Xiangling
    • Xiangling has good off-field Pyro application. Furthermore, some of her Ascension passives provide ATK% for other characters.
  3. Charlotte
    • Charlotte has great healing, especially to stack up Fanfare for Furina. She can also equip TTDS and Noblesse.
  4. Ningguang
    • Ningguang can equip TTDS and can provide the on-field character with some Geo DMG% Bonus. Her Jade Screen can also somewhat act as a barrier.
  5. Yanfei
    • Yanfei can equip TTDS and has a strong shield at C4.
  6. Lisa
    • Lisa can equip TTDS and has DEF% shred at C4, though that is relatively hard to obtain
  7. Dendro Traveler
    • Dendro Traveler is a decent option for Dendro application, battery, and Deepwood Memories. However, there are much better options that have been released, so they have fallen off.

C

These are still okay support characters in the game, though their support capabilities are definitely outclassed by other characters.

  1. Yaoyao
    • Yaoyao provides decent Dendro application and healing, but not both at the same time. This means that her utility is effectively split and cannot be fully utilized. However, she can be decent in single-target scenarios or in cases where you tightly hug enemies.
  2. Jahoda
    • Jahoda can decently support Moonsign teams, especially at C6. However, Sucrose is essentially better than her in all situations
  3. Kirara
    • Kirara provides a decent shield, though it is not the strongest. Her off-field application that allows her to be a good Deepwood or Instructors holder is gated by her C4, meaning her utility before that is severely shafted.
  4. Dori
    • Dori has decent off-field Electro Application and healing.

D

These are pretty bad support characters with limited usage

  1. Electro Traveler
    • Electro Traveler’s only use is generating lots of Electro particles as a battery
  2. Aloy
    • Aloy’s only use is generating lots of Cryo particles as a battery.

F

These characters have terrible support capability

  1. Qiqi
    • Qiqi’s only utility is healing, which doesn’t even have good uptime and has a terrible 30 second cooldown
  2. Noelle
    • Noelle’s supportive capability is a shield with terrible uptime and cooldowns
  3. Xinyan
    • Xinyan has a shield with bad uptime

N

These characters have great support capability, but only for a specific subset of characters. Outside of that, they are F tier

  1. Shenhe
    • Shenhe is great for Cryo DPS teams, with great energy generation, damage boosting, and RES% Shred. However, she is quite useless outside of Cryo teams.
  2. Illuga
    • Illuga is a best in slot teammate for Zibai, boosting her Lunar-Crystallized damage by a huge amount. However, he is useless for anyone else
  3. Faruzan
    • Faruzan has huge Anemo RES% Shred that no other character has. However, she is nearly useless outside of those teams.
  4. Gorou
    • Gorou has a great DEF buff for teammates, most notably Geo teammates. However, he is useless for non-DEF scalers
  5. Kujou Sara
    • At C6, she gives 60% CRIT DMG to Electro DMG. However, she is quite useless for non-Electro teams.
